Deviations
When I started this notes section, I told myself that I would post here once in a while about technical matters that had to do with digital photography or web based photographic applications. I remember asking my partner to remind me when my new notes section would start to turn into a blog, so that I could stop it in time. (The previous blog almost became a full time job.)
Obviously these pages here have turned into a blog. Having a desk job as the site administrator of AmeaNet leaves me little room to photograph, but there is always time left to post some comments here. It is a good substitute for just staring at status bars showing the progress of downloads during an 8 Gigabyte site backup.
So I have this tiny, silent audience now – 40 to 60 people at most. In the beginning they came from all over the globe, now more than half of the visitors are Dutch. I even start to recognize their IP-numbers. Hey, what is happening to my ex F.? I haven’t seen her here in a full week. These are the questions I ask myself after logging on to the statistics page.
Writing has always been a part of my life. Even when I was still very active as a magazine photographer I would usually write my own texts instead of taking a reporter along with me. My current job also involves producing a lot of text. It took me quite some time to feel at ease writing in English. I was not brought up with TV and my teacher English could have played the role of any German officer in a World War II movie. Most of the English I have learned was during my one year stay in New York in the beginning of the 1980′s.
Whatever I do; and how often I check dictionary.com, writing in English still feels like fucking with two condoms instead of one, so I am deviating again. I have set up a new site, where I can archive my older (Dutch) texts and maybe have a go at some new texts in my own language.
Now suddenly Dutch feels awkward, so it is time to correct that. Anyway, I will most probably keep updating this notes section, but for those of you who speak Dutch and return regularly to these pages, I would like to bring this new site: http://www.opkamer.net/ to your attention.
